A Classic State Savings Bank Wedding in Downtown Detroit

Updated: 3 days ago

Weddings at the State Savings Bank are always stunning, and Christina and Rece’s day was no exception. From the moment guests arrived, it was clear this celebration was going to be timeless, intentional, and full of personality. Hosted entirely at State Savings Bank, this Detroit wedding blended classic architecture with crisp black and white details for a look that felt elegant without feeling stuffy.

As a Detroit wedding planner, this is one of my favorite venues to work in, especially for couples who love a clean slate and are excited to truly customize their day.

Getting Ready for a State Savings Bank Wedding in Detroit

Christina and Rece tied the knot in early June, and the weather truly understood the assignment. Sunshine, mild temps, and that unmistakable early summer energy filled Downtown Detroit. MotorCity Pride was happening just a few blocks away, which gave the entire area a joyful, electric buzz that you could feel all day long.

Christina got ready looking effortlessly chic, with hair and makeup by Katherine Green Make Up and hJEM Beauty. Her gown from Beloved Bridal perfectly matched the vision she had from the start. Clean, modern, and absolutely timeless.

Why They Chose State Savings Bank

Christina and Rece fell in love with State Savings Bank for its classic bones and architectural drama. The space itself is stunning, but it is also essentially a wide open canvas. For this couple, that flexibility was a huge draw, especially since Christina had a very clear vision of a crisp black and white aesthetic.

Hosting both the ceremony and reception at the same location allowed the day to flow seamlessly, which is something I always encourage couples to consider when planning a Detroit wedding.

A Black and White Dress Code Done Right

One of the most memorable elements of the day was the fashion. The bridal party wore black, letting Christina shine in white, with fresh white florals tying everything together.

Guests were given clear and thoughtful attire guidance on the wedding website. Black tie attire was requested, with jewel tones encouraged for guests. The result was a room full of polished, elevated looks that complemented the venue beautifully. It felt cohesive without feeling forced, which is exactly what you want.

Thoughtful Details That Made It Personal

Even with such a classic palette, Christina and Rece made sure their personalities were woven into the day. A temporary tattoo station featuring custom designs, including illustrations of their dogs, was a huge hit. Behind the bar, a sign reading “Sunday’s Saloon,” named after their pup, added a playful and personal touch.

Catering by Reva Constantine Events kept guests happy and well fed, while Michael’s Entertainment kept the energy high throughout the evening. The florals and rentals came together with help from J Costello Designs, Events & Beyond, Your Event Party Rental, Detroit Chiavari, Luxe Event Linen, and Modernly Events, transforming the open space into a fully realized reception.

A Surprise Outfit Change and a Huge Crowd Reaction

After dinner, Christina made a surprise outfit change into the most perfect bridal jumpsuit. When she reentered the room, the crowd erupted into cheers. It was one of those moments that felt spontaneous and electric, and it instantly kicked the party into high gear.

The dance floor stayed packed thanks to Michael’s Entertainment, with fun photo moments courtesy of Fancy Flash, and Frankie Photography captured every emotional beat, from quiet moments to full dance floor chaos.

How I Helped Bring It All Together

Christina and Rece found me through a venue referral, which is always an honor. Because State Savings Bank is such a flexible space, they initially felt overwhelmed by how many decisions they needed to make. Tables, chairs, linens, layouts, timelines, and vendor coordination can add up fast.

Through partial planning, I helped them map out exactly what was needed, connect with the right vendors, and create a layout and timeline that made the day feel effortless. Watching everything come together exactly as planned is why I love what I do as a Detroit wedding planner.
